The Crooked Barn has never been interested in being perfect. It’s warm, unexpected, a little quirky, and unlike anywhere else on the property — the kind of place that makes you want to pour a drink, find a comfortable chair, and stay awhile.
The Story of the Crooked Barn
The Crooked Barn had already lived a few lives before it became what it is today. At one point it was used for animals, and when we found it, the old pens were still inside.
Over the years, the structure had settled noticeably to one side, giving the barn its crooked stance — and eventually, its name.
Bringing it back took a tremendous amount of work. Parts of the building were deteriorating, and restoring it meant repairing and strengthening the structure without erasing the character that made us love it in the first place.
The crookedness stayed. So did the aged wood, irregularities, and pieces of its past. We simply gave it another chapter.
Our Little Mountain Speakeasy
As Caya Azul evolved into a place for retreats, intimate weddings, and gatherings, we began imagining what the old barn could become.
We knew we didn’t want another traditional event space.
Instead, we created our own version of a little mountain speakeasy — not polished or pretentious, and certainly not perfect. Just warm, inviting, a little unexpected, and full of character.
It’s a place for a toast, some music, good conversation, a comfortable chair, and the kind of evening that makes you want to stay awhile.
Celebrating at The Crooked Barn
The Crooked Barn is a special-use space and is not included with standard overnight stays at Caya Azul.
Instead, it is available as an add-on for select celebrations and gatherings — a place to continue the evening with a toast, a little music, conversation, and time together in a setting that feels completely different from the rest of the property.
Its intimate size and relaxed character make it especially suited to smaller celebrations rather than traditional receptions. Depending on the gathering, access to the Crooked Barn may be paired with one of Caya Azul’s celebration options.
