A Quiet Corner of Caya Azul
Set just steps from the pond and stream, the Green Cottage is a smaller, more intimate retreat within Caya Azul. Its location makes the pond feel almost like an extension of the cottage itself—a peaceful place to sit nearby, watch the water, or feed the bluegill that live there. We keep fish food in the cottage for guests who want to join in; watching them gather at the surface has become one of those simple, unexpectedly fun pleasures of staying here.
Like the Main House, the Green Cottage needed a great deal of care when we first found it. It had been neglected over time and required extensive work to make it feel welcoming again. Little by little, we repaired, refreshed, and reimagined the space, keeping its simple cottage character while giving it a new sense of warmth and purpose.
Inside, the cottage is warm and comfortable, with a relaxed mix of furnishings gathered over time. Some of its most meaningful pieces came from an Asheville River Arts District business whose inventory was buried in mud during Hurricane Helene. After the storm, pieces that could be recovered were cleaned and offered in a final sale. Several of them found their way here, where they have been given a new life in the cottage.
The cottage has its own private patio overlooking the natural surroundings, while the pond, stream, and walking paths are just outside the door. It works beautifully as a getaway on its own, or as an additional place to stay when family and friends are gathering at Caya Azul.
